The whole faculty of Humanities and Imo State University were turned in mourning environment on Tuesday when the news of the death two students of French Department filtered in.
The students identified as Moses Izuchukwu and Jane were said to be coming from the burial of mother of a course mate when their vehicle had accident.
According to an eye-witness who does want his name in prints, auto crash occurred at the Nworieubi junction on the Owerri-Orlu Expressway.
He said, “The two students died on the spot. They were crushed beyond recognition, especially the female student. It was a horrible sight. The students were on their way back from the funeral rites of the mother of one of their course mates.”
A large number of the course mates of the deceased couldn’t hold their emotions, as they cried profusely.
A student of the university, identified simply as Justice, told our correspondent that the late students were in their fourth year in the school and were billed to travel to Benin Republic in January for their internship.
He said, “I knew Jane very well; she was the senator representing the French Department in the parliamentarian arm of the Students Union Government. She was popularly known as Senator Jane.
“She was jovial and a strong female politician on the campus. She will be remembered for her selfless services to the school.”
One of the lecturers of the deceased students, Prof. Valen Obinna, who confirmed the incident, said the Faculty of Humanities was saddened by the “shocking development.”
