The Yoruba Youth Council has told the federal government to stop playing politics with the statement of former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Danjuma and address his message.
The President of the Council, Eric Oluwole stated this while briefing the journalists in the stand taken by the council in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Danjuma had on Saturday at the convocation of Taraba State University urged on Nigerians to use whatever means at their disposal to defend themselves against killers.
His declaration has continued to generate mixed reactions across the country with several people castigating him for what he said.
Oluwole asserted that what General Danjuma said is legal because the law of the land recognizes self-defense and call on the security agencies to address the array of challenges facing lives and properties of Nigerians.
“What General Danjuma said is legal since our constitution recognizes self-defense. He only called on Nigerians to defend themselves against the killer herdsmen’s attack and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
“Our advice to the Federal Government is to address the message of the former military Chief instead of playing politics with it and attack his personality,” Oluwole added.
Oluwole urged all Nigerians to shun sentiments and show solidarity with General Danjuma as this may signal the end of the incessant clashes and killings in the country.
