Masked gunmen on Friday attacked one of the governorship aspirants in the forthcoming Osun 2018 elections, Olawale Rasheed.
Rasheed, who is a member of People’s Democratic Party, PDP was said to be on his way to state party secretariat in Osogbo to submit his intent letter to the party hierarchy when he was attacked.
A statement by his media team revealed that the incident happened around Gbogan junction.
Mr Rasheed was travelling to Osogbo to submit his Letter of Intent to contest the governorship and attend the leadership meeting scheduled for this morning at Osogbo.
The statement reads, “An unmarked black jeep suddenly overtook Mr Rasheed’s jeep and blocked the path. Four masked gunmen jumped down shooting into the air and shouting “get him, get him”
“Mr Rasheed’s driver then made a fast reverse and then turned into the ditch and faced Ibadan. The gunmen who by now were shooting sporadically rushed into their jeep and pursued Rasheed’s fleeing jeep.
“They shot sporadically but by God neither Rasheed nor his assistant were hurt. After chasing him for few minutes, the gunmen turned back.
“We want to inform out teeming supporters that God is in control and Mr Rasheed is safe”, the statement concluded.
