The Runner Up in the Saturday governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi has rejected the results of the primary election of the party and vowed to use internal mechanism of the party to seek for immediate redress.
While making his stand known, Ogunbiyi insisted that the votes attributed to him at the poll were much lower than the votes he actually garnered. He stated this today, at his residence in Ile-Ogbo in Ayedire local government area of the state, stressing that the PDP has no governorship candidate yet.
The Chairman of the election, Governor Dickson Seriake of Bayelsa state at the said poll declared that Ogunbiyi polled 1, 562 votes and lost to Senator Ademola Adeleke who repeatedly polled 1,569 votes.
But, Ogunbiyi rejected the verdict, stating that, “the outcome of the primary election has been a subject of concern to a great majority of our party members who have been disappointed, disillusioned and confused by the conduct of the exercise and the results as declared by the Panel led by His Excellency, Governor Seriake Dickson.”
He added, “some of the major issues which compromised the integrity of the exercise and made the results clearly unacceptable include the non-adherence to the clear provisions of the Electoral Guidelines and unfortunate manipulation of the accreditation, voting, sorting and counting of the votes cast by delegates at the primaries.”
“Consequent upon these infractions therefore, the votes attributed to me at the end of the voting exercise were much lower than what I actually scored as valid votes. I have therefore resolved to use the internal mechanism of the party to seek an immediate redress of this clear case of injustice which is contrary to the spirit of transparency and justice being propagated by the new leadership of our party led by the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.”
“I assure you all that the mandate which was freely given to me by majority of the delegates will be reclaimed by the special grace of God. ”
The aspirant thanked the leaders and members of the party who stood by him before, during and after the Primary elections. He also appreciated all co-aspirants who stepped down their individual ambitions to support him in clinching the PDP ticket and also extolled all delegates from the 332 wards in Osun state who participated in the election and expressed their clear preference for him as the person most suitable to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party in the governorship election.
