The Nigerian governors forum has that the governors were not elected to pay salaries alone but also to provide good roads, electricity, education and other necessary amenities for the benefit of the electorates.

The governors made the statement under the auspices of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) when reacting to the clamour on the implementation of a new minimum wage.

The chairman of the NGF, Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state, said it is regrettable that state governments have been limited to only paying of salaries while other sectors such as health, electricity, education, among others, are not given the same attention, The Cable reports.

He said governors do not have the money to pay the N65,000 minimum wage which the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is proposing.
