As the advocacy for planting of trees and protection against global warming is gaining momentum, the Corps members posted to Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja are doing their possible best to not only advocate but also contribute significantly towards this target.
The Corps members who are members of Sustainable Development Goals Community Development Service today trooped out en mass to plant trees at Junior Secondary School, Phase 3, Gwagwalada.
While advocating for the needs to put all hands on deck towards combating the climate change, president of the group, Corper Samuel Musa stated that his group decided to embark on tree planting in the school so as to counter the future occurrence of the recent climate change experienced in some parts of the country.
He added that, “as advocates of Sustainable Development Goals, we don’t just preach the gospel of development, we also live it. As a group, we believe in partnership and that why we will not only plant but will also teach you (students) the best way to plant a tree and nurse it for future generations.
“Our choice of edible plants was informed by our resolutions to use an action to provide solutions to several challenges as teaches by SDGs.
“With this, we have actualize the Zero Hunger, No Poverty, Climate Action and Life on the land goals. We have also brought drugs for your clinic in line with goal three of SDGs which is Good Health and Well-being”, he said.
While appreciating the kind gesture of the corps members towards the school, the school principal, Mrs Deborah Ojo promised to ensure that what they (Corpers) have done will be sustained and improved by the school.
Mrs Ojo prayed for the youths and urged the public to take cue from the laudable projects they are doing.
Also at the outreach were members of the NYSC SDGs Coordinating Team from AMAC who were at the Area Council to deliver the message of the headquarters. They are Ismahil Tiamiyu, Nnenna Eze and Olumide Falayi
Highlights of the event are teaching of the students the SDGs and importance of each goals to our daily lives, teaching of students how to successfully plant and nurse trees.
