A Lagos-based legal practitioner, Aremo Dotun Hassan, Esq has on behalf accused the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris of aiding and abetting illegal miners and conspiracy to defraud federal government of several millions of naira.
Hassan, who is the Assistant Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Epe branch also alleged the IGP of conspiring with Chief Idowu Abraham Akanle and his wife to forcefully dispossessing Chief Gbenga Ibuoye of landed property worth N3bn.
In his strong worded statement, Hassan also pointed an accusing finger to former president Olusegun Obasanjo of backing both the Akanles and Idris to continually defrauding both the government and Ibuoye.
He said, “It has come to our notice, the recent flagrant abuse of office, biased and recalcitrant conspiracy ploy by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris whose abysmal efforts was detected in the bid to aid and abet crime and corruption came to the fore on 30th September, 2018 in Lagos by halting with immediate effect through the issued order to “stop investigation pending further instruction” in the ongoing reported matter bordering on wide scale fraud of siphoning over N92Million Unpaid Royalty Fees belonging to the Federal Ministry of Mines, criminal conversion and diversion of investment proceeds profits worth over N5Billion, and Criminal Invasion and Trespass of the 100 Acres of Landed Property worth N3Billion belonging to the victim; Chief Gbenga Ibuoye; a licensed miner and investor, wherein due to the illicit and shoddy manner of investigation, exposing high level connivance with the principal culprits: Chief Abraham Akanle and his wife, Mrs. Adenike Akanle, this precipitated our petition for the urgent transfer and immediate further action on the case file, due to the noticed biased investigation and subversion of justice as being formerly handled by CP Sabo of the Admin Unit, Alagbon, Annex Force Headquarters, Ikoyi, Lagos led team by one DSP Theophilus and his investigation team to the new team led by Inspector Sunny of the IGP IRT, Force Headquarters, FCT Abuja Team attached to DCP Abba Keyari, considering their untainted succinct track records of excellence and landmark achievements in nipping in the board high profile cases in the Nigeria Police Force: Viz: The ‘Notorious Evans the Kidnapper’ and others so far, hence our demand for adequate justice against this ‘double jeopardy’ perpetrated by these notorious octogenarian: Chief Idowu Abraham Akanle, evil muted by his wife Mrs. Adenike Akanle and others, with the aid and consented authority of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President, Fedral Republic of Nigeria.
“To our chagrin dismay and disappointment, It is on record that we had investigative interview meeting between the principal culprits led by Chief Idowu Abraham Akanle, Mrs. Adenike Akanle and Deacon Taiwo Kolade alongside the victim: Chief Gbenga Ibuoye with CP Dam Nkem Okoro, Esq, FCIID, Anti Fraud Unit, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, some senior police officers at the FCIID section, alongside Inspector Sunny and his IGP IRT team on Wednesday 29th August, 2018 which started by 5.55PM and lasted till about 10:30PM, and after so much endless efforts to achieve justice we learnt the culprits were asked to go without writing any statements under caution.
“Consequently, all we were told on the 30th of August, 2018 by Inspector Sunny and his team is that there was an order from the IGP to halt the ongoing Investigation and wait for further directives, knowing fully well the IGP arrived Lagos on Thursday 30th August,2018, the same date agreed to obtain statements and tendering of all documents to prove the culprits actions, yet they failed to appear at Alagbon by 1pm where the team was waiting, for onward movement to Abuja and further investigation. A step we suspected the culprits must have influenced in concert with the police to subvert justice.
“This step is not in line with DCP Abba Keyari’s untainted vision and renowned due process for succinctly diligent investigation especially when confronted on the aforementioned culprit’s steps he promised to address the matter when he is back in the country.
“Our client: Chief Gbenga Ibuoye has suffered greatly, he lost over N5Billion worth of mining land surface site investment profit earnings and another 100 Acres of land at Igbesa, Ogun State worth N3Billion Naira to these culprits, he was at various points in time subjected to unbearable pains, agony and threat to his life, and the only opportunity to achieve justice is now dampened by the IGP, hence our appeal and clarion call to Mr. President Muhammodu Buhari to intervene and set up an independent judicial inquiry, and further seek the accelerated intervention of all lovers of justice to lend their voices against this monumental injustice, while calling on DCP Abba Keyari to act in swift concerted efforts with the IGP for immediate re-order to finalize the aforementioned investigation forthwith, in order to save our client’s life, his financial loss and land surface mining industry in itele, Ogun state, (all backed by documentation and factual records shown herein) which are all currently in the draconian and oppressive hands of Chief Abraham Akanle, who claimed to be blood brother to Chief Olusegun in whose authority and consent our client was granted the mining site and for the past seven years they refused our client entry into his place of business, who are relying on their close ties with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to further consolidate and perpetrate this treacherous evil against our client to subvert justice at will unhindered.
“We are aware the suspects is working round the clock to sweep the Investigation under the carpet, and equally framed up our client as he used to do in the past, which led to previous incarceration of our client in prison for months, but for the saving grace of the DPP that exonerated him of any culpability in the court he was discharged of the framed up allegations of Kidnapping(kindly find the attached herewith DPP advice signed by Ms. TK Shitta-Bey dated 14th February, 2018 marked LJP/MISC.2017/204/31 and court judgment delivered by Magistrate M. Owumi of Court 10, Igbosere, Lagos on 15th February, 2018).
“Hence, we humbly look forward to the dispassionate reconsideration of our petition and the transferred case file from Admin Department, Alagbon to the IGP IRT Team Unit, while we laconically demand the IGP to allow unbiased full inquiry into our claims forthwith.
“In order as to ensure the Federal Government earn its desired accruable revenue proceeds which must have doubled the N92Million amount earlier stated by the Federal Ministry of Mines, which remains unabatedly in the hands of the culprits: Chief Idowu Abraham Akanle, Mrs. Adenike Akanle and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is urgently and duly recovered, and that justice be allowed to thrive unhindered, while salvaging the ailing ship of the nation from perceived saboteurs at all ends of the divide is not impeded and free from economic sabotage and corruption.
“We demand absolute prosecution of the matter if they are found culpable at the court of competent jurisdiction accordingly.
ŁInjustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
We have emphatically spoken.
