If there is one thing God has blessed Nsit Ubium people with, it is the cream of political stakeholders, who are always making waves and command large followings, irrespective of political affiliations. Needless to mention them, as their names echo influence.
Compared to other Local Government Areas in the state where one can easily mention a name or two that controls almost everything, Nsit Ubium is blessed with so many power-wielding personalities.
Nevertheless, there has always been one issue that accompanies such blessing, and that is the problem of who should lead, and who should one submit to. Everybody wants to be the leader, and so the center, more often than not, does not hold water.
Of greater concern to me is the role played by the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke, who incidentally hails from Nsit Ubium. As a young vibrant leader, many youths have come to identify with him as their pacesetter. But of late, the once cherished political idol is becoming power drunk, and he has started shooting himself in the leg.
The once humble people’s speaker is becoming desperate to tread on any toes to achieve his political aim. He is even biting the fingers that fed him.
As far as Nsit Ubium politics is concerned, Onofiok Luke has always benefitted from the support and fatherly coverage of the distinguished senator, Effiong Bob. It is still fresh in our memory how senator Effiong Bob stood his grounds to ensure that Onofiok Luke won the party’s primary against the choice of the then Governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio. But today, instead of Barr. Onofiok Luke to reciprocate such humane disposition and support of Sen. Effiong Bob, he is fighting him tooth and nail.
It is no longer news that Barr. Luke has sponsored two aspirants to oppose Barr. Otobong Bob, the son of his benefactor, and even vowed to stop Barr. Otobong Bob by all means. This, perhaps informs the recent meeting he(Barr. Luke) convened at Mandela Queen’s Hotel, where he mobilized youths to cause violence in Nsit Ubium. He is so smart in playing his card well, hence he often attacks undercover, while projecting others to do his biddings.
When Barr. Onofiok Luke come in contact with Sen. Bob face to face, he pretends as if he is supporting him, but behind him, he bites like a drunken dog. O the people’s speaker, who has bewitched you? You now brags that you will soon retire all politicians in Nsit Ubium and install yourself as the new leader. Who has bewitched you, O Barr. Luke?
You are now insulting elders at will, and engage in emergency philanthropy for political gains. Let it be known to everyone that cares to listen, a child that says his mother should not sleep, does not sleep as well. In as much as you’re bent on insulting senator Effiong Bob, and instigating political violence in Nsit Ubium, when the political volcanic eruption will sweep the constituency, you and your family won’t be spared, for what goes around must surely come around.
As for Barr. Otobong Bob, he is the choice of the people. And even if hand joins with hand, his victory is guaranteed.
