News filtered in later yesterday (Friday) that the Osun State Accountant General, Mr Alaba Kolawole resigned his appointment amidst controversies.
The Accountant General, who wrote to all the states’ banks notifying them that effective from Monday September 10th, he would cease to be the Accountant General of the state
This letter is unusual and not known to the civil service rule, an indication that all is not well with governor Rauf Aregbesola.
A source in Osogbo who is privy of the development said that “it may not be unconnected with the unusual disbursement of monies that Ogbeni would be asking the Accountant General to release for the election.
“The governor had earlier approved extension of service for the Accountant General, whose last day in office was supposed to be July 31st, 2018.
“The Governor’s plan is to hold on to the Accountant General until he leaves office to keep his secrets”.
Another source who alluded to the retirement of Kolawole to be July 31st, 2018 said he (Kolawole) was expecting a tenure elongation which did not come before the last Eid El Kabir festival when he clocked 60.
However, the source said Kolawole has been expecting an extension of service which he never get, hence his decision to resign.
The source said, “I have also been reading reports that he voluntarily resigned. He did not resign. He has since clocked 60 and mandatorily, he should have left the civil service.”
“There are indications and confirmed insinuations that because he was not granted tenure elongation, he has since resorted to the use of the media to blackmail the government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun State. ”
“If truly he has resigned and his tenure not extended, he could have not been working up till the moment he wrote the letter to banks saying he is no more responsible for Osun Funds from September 10. They are just using everything to blackmail Aregbesola. ”
As at the time of filing this report, the ongoing controversy has made the Osun State Government order his immediate surbodinate to take over from him as Acting Accountant General.
InsightMedia had earlier reported that some governors have alleged federal government of secretly disbursing 16.67bn for the September 22nd governorship election in Osun.
