THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM

“The struggle for freedom is rational only if it will lead to a sociopolitical and economic development” Olayemi Dlaw,2018.

It was the best of time
It was the worst of time
It was the struggle for freedom
It was the age of wisdom

It was an epoch of belief
As every Nigerian was relieved
The struggle for freedom
Was not championed by the randoms

Most African nations were on the struggle
We all wanted freedom, even those in the jungle
It was finally gotten not on a platter of gold
As the African leaders were so bold

1960,the year of African independence
As we struggle for freedom with evidences
But the freedom they gave us was a formality
As it lacks authenticity and reliability

Alas! Are African states truly independent?
Despite the fact that we are intelligent
As our foreign policy remains pro-west
We still suffer sociopolitical unrest

Nkrumah opined it’s neo-colonialism
After a long period of colonialism
Some African leaders joined the non align movement
Yet they are pro-west,is this non- alignment

It was the civil war that made us know where we belong
The western world have deceived us for so long
When we needed them, they betrayed us
Thank God for the East that rescued us

Funnily enough, we went back to the west
After the civil war that led to to sociopolitical unrest
African leaders indeed underdeveloped Africa
This is a fact even in Antarctica

While some still blame the Europeans for our underdevelopment
Until we are politically and economically free,we can’t attain the stage of development
Is our struggle for freedom a bridge or a barrier?
This is a question that’s begging for an answer
