One of the spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar campaign organization, Alhaji Buba Galadima has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will not be the person to be sworn in come May 29, 2019.
Reacting to Buhari’s refusal to sign the electoral bill, Galadima said Buhari would be handing over power to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, by the next Democracy Day in Nigeria.
“I quote the president, he said he is leaving it to the next government, of course, God will answer his prayers because, by May 29, he will not be the president of Nigeria,” he said during a programme on Channels TV.
He said Buhari is denying other candidates a level playing field, transparency and access to power by not signing the electoral bill.
According to him, when Atiku takes over power, his first duty will be to sign the electoral act. Speaking on the about the peace accord signed by the various presidential candidates participating in the forthcoming election, Galadima said: “It doesn’t look like this government believes in the rule of law or justice.”
The elder statesman described Atiku as a democrat who strongly believes in the rule of law, noting that peace is premeditated on justice. On his part, Senator Ayo Arise disagreed with Galadima’s assertions.
The senator, representing Ekiti state at the upper chamber, said there is a propensity for people to trust President Buhari than other candidates.
He added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate has provable records of integrity. He said President Buhari is committed to a free and fair election even without the signing of the peace accord.
Arise said he has not seen any tendency for violence within the ruling APC.
According to him, the APC will abide by the peace accord because there is “no desperation on the part of the president”.
