Palpable tension has rented the air as the United States of America have closed its embassies in Nigeria over the current government shutdown in the country. .
The US embassy Nigeria in a statement on its official Facebook page said all its centres located in the embassy in Abuja and consulate general in Lagos will remain closed.
According to the statement, the embassies would only re-open when the US government shutdown is resolved.
“Due to the current US government shutdown, the American Centers located in the Embassy, Abuja and Consulate General, Lagos are unfortunately closed. They will re-open once the U.S. government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons,” the US embassy said.
For the past 10 days, a government shutdown have continued to take its toll on activities in the US.
The shutdown followed a federal spending negotiations which has stalled activities between President Donald Trump and lawmakers.
Voice of America reports that President Trump has continued to demand billions of dollars in federal spending for wall construction along the U.S.-Mexico border.
However, while some democratic lawmakers back a modest increase in spending for an overall border security, these lawmakers oppose a wall after spending for the federal expired on December 22.
