The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed that Dino Melaye is in its custody.
According to the Force, Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West district in the National Assembly, has been taken to the Police Hospital in Abuja for medical treatment.
A statement by Acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer on Friday, stressed that Melaye will face charges for his alleged culpability in the shooting of a policeman in July 2018.
Melaye had surrendered himself to the Police earlier on Friday, eight days after the Police invaded his Abuja residence to arrest him.
“Senator Dino Melaye is currently in Police custody for investigation, and subsequently, taken to Police hospital, Abuja for medical attention and he is in stable condition. Investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him is ongoing. The case will be taken to court on completion of investigation.”
