The Osun Central chapter of the Social Democratic Party has dissociated itself from what it described as a “desperate and sectional endorsement” of President Muhammadu Buhari by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party.
This dissociation was a statement by the senatorial candidate in the district, Otunba Solomon Ayotunde Babatunde on Friday in Osogbo and obtained by InsightMedia.
Otunba Babatunde frown face at the said endorsement of Buhari, calling it a desperate attempt by some very few individuals in the party to enrich themselves and serve their ego.
The statement reads in part, “The endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari by the NEC of our party did not only give us shocks but also landed with great uncertainty.
“The uncertainty actually birthed questions on what the NEC meant by the endorsement of Buhari when we have our own candidate. We need to ask the NEC who and who did they consult on Osun that gave them the go-ahead? They also need to tell us if the stand is that of the party members across the grassroots.
“I know the answers to these are negative and it’s on this basis and for the purpose of setting the record straight that we completely dissociate ourselves from this shameful endorsement of Buhari.
“We remain confident and united in the SDP as we look forward to victories in the poll come next week and as for the presidential poll, we stand firm on The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) agenda”.
