Says Osun APC Is Not Populated By Progressives But Carpetbaggers
Otunba Lai Oyeduntan, the senatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party for Osun Central senatorial district has stated that economic growth and human capital are core of his agenda at the upper chamber of the National Assembly when elected.
Oyeduntan, who stated that the present day All Progressives Congress in Osun state has derailed from the path of progressivism, made this known while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Sunday.
The Pioneer Coordinator of Oranmiyan Group added that he happens to be one of the leading political figures who had in the past garnered required experience, knowledge and capabilities to represent the people of the ten local governments that make up Osun Central.
He said, “Senate in any country needs to be populated by matured minds who have the cognitive ability to understand the dynamics of the state and move it forward. Among those contesting, I remain the best in terms of knowledge, capacity and experience having served as Commissioner for water resources and Commissioner for health during the administration of Bisi Akande.
“Osun Central has the capacity to be the leading zone in terms of employment generation and human capital development. The people are clamouring for regurgitation of two moribund companies – Machine Tools and Steel rolling mills – that have capacity to turn around the economic fortunes of the state and the country. Several groups have demanded for this and I will surely use my office to get it done.
When asked about why he and other influential people left the progressives fold, the Osogbo-born politician replied that he remains on the paths of progressivism and he described the present leaders of APC in the state as “carpetbaggers”.
“I have not left the progressives fold. I’m a died in the wool of the progressives. I’m no longer in the APC. APC is no longer in character of the progressives. We still have few progressives-minded left there but the party is no longer a progressive party.
“The Chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famoodun is not progressive. The progressivism has been diluted and polluted in APC Osun. Whatever left in it are carpetbaggers claiming the empty shell of progressivism”.
Oyeduntan expressed his optimism that his party will win the polls as “people are already tired of the APC’s representation.
“Our grassroots campaign have given us assurance of victory as we have been able to rebuild people’s confidence”.
