Ondo State government, on Tuesday, distributed relief materials to the people who are affected by rainstorm in Akoko communities in Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state.

A turbulent rainstorm last week displaced some residents people of three communities, destroying properties worth millions of Naira in the three communities of Supare Akoko, Ikare and Ugbe Akoko.

The state government, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Tuesday distributed relief materials to the victims, with a promise to come to the aid of the victims soon.

Speaking while handing over the materials to the people, the state Deputy governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, said the distribution became necessary to ameliorate the suffering of the victims affected by rainstorm.

The deputy governor said the steps taken by the present administration in the state should be seen as a sign of sympathy of the government to the people and the demonstration of government commitment towards the welfare of its citizen.

He noted that though government was still looking for other means to provide succour to the victims of the rainstorm and said the immediate donation of the roofing materials became imperative to safe the affected houses from further damages.

Speaking while receiving the items on behalf of his community, the Onisupare of Supare Akoko, Oba Adedeji Adejoro, commended state government for the gesture, saying the gesture the timely intervention will go a long way to save the lives of the people who have been sleeping in the open.

He described the Akeredolu-led government in the state as being responsive to the plights of the people of the state.

According to him, it was unprecedented in the history of the state to receive such help from government within a very short notice, saying the people of the area will not forget in a hurry the gestures.

He maintained the gesture of the state government would go a long way to ameliorate the pains of the havoc wrecked on the community by the rainstorm.

Also speaking, another beneficiary at Ikare Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area, Mr. Lucas Omotosho expressed gratitude to government.

It will be recalled that the Deputy governor, last week led officials of SEMA to the affected communities to inspect the level of damage while assuring the victims of quick government response to cushion the effect of the rainstorm

The items donated include roofing sheets, various sizes of nail and other building material accessories.
