Two people were killed on Saturday in ghastly motor accident that involved two vehicles and a motorcycle on Saturday claimed two lives at LAMECO filling station roundabout in Osogbo, the state capital.
The other person, understood to be a pregnant woman who survived the accident but was seriously injured, was promptly taken to the hospital by men of the Osun State owned ambulance service, O’Ambulance.
The remains of the commercial motorcyclist badly mutilated while his fairly complexion lady passenger had her legs crushed in the accident was sighted by our correspondent.
It was gathered that the driver of the sand carrying truck with registration number FNN 364 XA that was coming from Iwo axis of Osogbo East bye-pass lost control of his truck due to brake failure while approaching LAMECO roundabout and ran over the motorcyclists and his passenger that were said to be coming form Ilobu road.
The truck also hit a Nissan Primere with registration number EJG 581AA, upturned the vehicle leaving the driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle seriously injured.
Men of the Nigeria Police force and Road safety Corps had hectic time controlling vehicular movement at the scene of the accident.
Meanwhile, the remains of the victims of the accident have been taken to the mortuary.
Speaking with our Correspondent on phone, the state commissioner for works and transport, Engr Oluremi Omowaiye who also visited the scene of the accident and partook in clearing of the traffic, commiserated with the families of the victims.
Omowaiye said the State Government under the leadership of Mr Gboyega Oyetola is trying all its possible best to fix roads for easy access and that the accident was not caused by the poor road as it was caused by the truck.
He said, “As a government, we commiserate with the family of those who lost their loved ones. We know it’s painful and we share from their pains. We pray that God will give them fortitude to bear the loss.
“Yesterday’s accident was not caused by infrastructural problem, it was as a result of the failure of the brake of the truck coming from Iwo axis of the road. Most of these issues caused by motorists will be checked. The office of transportation will work in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure that everyone complies with all the safety measures.”
Omowaiye called on the people of the state to be “extra careful and patient as we approach the festive period” to avoid mishaps on the road adding that life has no spare.
He said the government is trying and will continue to try to ensure that all roads in the state are motorable and for safety of lives and properties of everyone.
