A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has sent the Director-General of National Council for Arts and Culture, Olusegun Runsewe to prison over alleged contempt of the court.

Justice Jude Okeke gave the order while delivering ruling on a motion from a suit filed by Ummakalif limited which had the Minister of FCT, Federal Capital Development Authority, DG of NCAC and the Minister of Culture and Tourism as first to fourth defendants respectively.

The court was asked to sentence Runsewe to prison for contempt of a court order made on December 15, 2017.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Okeke said it’s important to sentence Runsewe to prison to serve as deterrent to others who may wish to abuse their office by disobeying court orders.

He ordered the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu to immediately arrest Runsewe and hand him over to Nigerian Correctional Service pending when he obeys the court order.
