Osun State government has on Thursday discontinued the prosecution of a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Saheed Akinloye, who was remanded over a Facebook post on COVID-19 cases in the state.

It was gathered that State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Femi Akande, and the Prosecutor-General in the Ministry of Justice to withdraw the case.

The Governor was said to have ordered an unconditional release of Akinloye.

Unconfirmed sources claimed that Akinloye had shown remorse over the allegation of inciting the people of the state against the government, of which he pleaded not guilty to in court.

Akinloye had accused the state government of importing COVID-19 patients into the state in order to get fund from the Federal Government.

Akinloye was dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the court denied him bail and ordered his remand.
