Residents of the state of Osun on Thursday rejected the palliative measure offered them by the state government as they the complained bitterly about the quality and quantity of the rice given to them.

They alleged that the rice have expired and a resident can barely get a cup of rice in some polling units with large voters.

It would be recalled that the state governor, Gboyega Oyetola on Wednesday flagged off the distribution of 6,020 bags of rice to residents with each polling unit getting two bags.

In some areas visited by our correspondents across Osogbo, Ilobu, Okinni and Erin-Osun, residents were seen bitterly, while some destroyed the bags given to them saying that it would not be enough to go round all of them.

A resident, Mr Adewale Shittu condemned the state government for giving them such meagre food after locking them down for over a week.

He said, “this is so bad and sardonic. How would the government think of giving its citizens expired rice that they can’t feed their dogs at home. The asked us to stay at home and what they think we deserve is a cup of rice and less.”

At another polling unit Osun, residents were seen on uncoordinated queue all scampering to get their shares. This is in clear contravention of the social distancing rule.

Some were lamenting, describing the palliative as insults on their persons.

“We’re more than 1000 voters here. How are we going to share two bags of rice? It’s an insult on all of us. They government is giving us this after spending seven days at home,” a resident said.

Our correspondent also saw the rice spilled on the ground by some aggrieved residents in another polling unit. They said the rice is expired and is not expected to be consumed by human being.
