••• As Olori Fatimah Oyelami distributes palliatives to 1000 citizens
A traditional ruler in the State of Osun, Oba Hammed Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun II, the Olowu of Kuta has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to extend Covid-19 grants to Osun as it struggles to fight the pandemic.
Oba Makama made the call on Friday while addressing newsmen at his palace during the flag-off of second edition Olori Fatimah Adeola Makama Oyelude Community Employment Initiatives worth six million of naira.
The monarch also advocated for a debt relief for the state, just as it has been done by international lenders across the globe.
The royal father maintained that Osun need fund to carry on its fight against the noble virus which has become a threat to the state economy and residents at a whole.
Recall, Osun is among the states in Nigeria which have high cases of the pandemic with 34 recorded cases so far and two deaths.
The Yoruba monarch maintained that “a state like Osun deserves financial assistance to augment its lean financial resources in order for its government not to grind to a halt.
Federal government can also grant debt relief or moratorium for Osun state so as to be on sound footing in the post COVID-19″ he said.
Applauding efforts of the Presidential Task Force, chaired by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha he said ” Federal government has done so well in curtailing the COVID-19 and we must commend them”.
He further noted that even those had predicted doom for Africa based on the way the rampaging COVID-19 humbled some of the developed nations that boast of best healthcare infrastructure can not but commend the Buhari led government for its comportment.
While speaking on the palliatives food relief items the monarch said it had earlier distributed palliatives to religious leaders of the community before extending it to Kuta residents at large.
Oba Makama said the initiative by the Olori has led to massive empowerment of his subjects with over about 1000 citizens getting food stuffs as palliatives today.
Some of the beneficiaries of the palliatives expressed their joy over the Monarch’s gesture. They described Oba Makama as a great philanthropist, who has impacted greatly on his people.
