As Nigeria marks 21st anniversary of uninterrupted democracy in the fourth republic, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude Tegbosun 3 has commended the Military for its role in strengthening democracy.
Oba Oyelude, in a statement to commemorate May 29th, said President Muhammadu Buhari has lived to the tenets of democracy in the last five years, adding that the Nigeria Army under the leadership of Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has remained committed to the democratic principles.
Oba Oyelude said, “Democracy is when the government voted in by the people see their security and total well-being as sacrosanct, it must not be toyed with.
“As we celebrate twenty-one uninterrupted democratic rule and five years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership, one must commend him for providing the much-needed leadership for the protection of our democratic institutions and values, the steadfastness of Nigerians and the dedication of Nigeria Military especially the Nigeria Army under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai is also worthy of commendation.
“It is a widely acknowledged fact that the Military with most demand and expectations on the Army protects Democracy all over the world and the Nigeria Army is not an exception.
“In the last five years, Nigeria Army has conducted and subject itself to the best practice standards, utmost professionalism and dedication to the protection of the sovereignty of our great nation from all.”
The monarch called for increased support to the Nigeria Army and the administration of President Buhari as “they continue to strive towards improving our security.”
