Protesters, under the aegis of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria, (FOMWAN) stormed the State of Osun House of Assembly complex on Wednesday to protest the rising cases in Nigeria.
The protesters, armed with placards with inscriptions like “Justice for rape victim”, “say no to raping and killing”, “Rapists should not work freely, they are criminal” among others, were received by the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Timothy Owoeye.
Led by the Amira of FOMWAN, State of Osun, Qudrat Oladunmoye, the protesting women demanded that justice should be done to Rapists in the country in order to stop the incessant cases.
The speaker, during the plenary, appreciated the efforts of the association for feeling concerned about the rising cases in the country, stating that the state assembly will has put all measures in place to ensure that convicted rapist are punished.
He said the assembly recently passed Anti-Kidnapping and other related bill into law, which stipulates a minimum of life imprisonment for convicted rapists.
