Salami Wasiu Onidugbé, a 26-year old student activist from Ibagun ward, Ilorin East Local Government, Kwara state has appointed as the Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Student matters.
He started his comradeship sojourn right from his secondary school days wherein he became an active member of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Okelele secondary school, Ilorin.
Moving forward, after his secondary school, he proceeded to Kwara State College of Education, Oro. During his days in the college, he extended his comradeship sojourn by occupying various leadership positions which include; The convener of Union of Class Governors, Departmental (English) P.R.O, Reformation Movement Vice Chairman, SUG President, among others.
Not only that, due to his passion for education, he proceeded to University of Ilorin and became the Chairman of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara state axis, during his university days.
During his tenure as the NANS Kwara Chairman, he impacted tremendously in the lives of students through various programs including students’ empowerment. His passion for students financial independent made him to establish an entrepreneurship hub that was named after the Iconic AGF Abdulrazaq which was named “AGF Abdulrazaq Entrepreneurship hub” located in Zango, Ilorin, where students are being trained in different skills acquisition like ICT, fashion design, cake and pastries, make-up and hairdressing, agriculture, among other skills.
Academically, he holds NCE in English Language (2017) and B.Ed Guidance and counseling (2021).
Salami is an experienced comrade who maintains balance between academic activities and students unionism. Despite him being the SUG President during his days in college of education, he was also the best graduating students in the department of English language. As a result, he was meritoriously celebrated during the college 12th combined convocation which was held in year 2019. Similarly, he also graduated from University of Ilorin with a Second Class Honour (Upper Division).
Furthermore, in the aspect of leadership, he received various leadership awards during the college 12th combined convocation where he was awarded as the “best SUG President in the college” by the management, senior staffs union of college of education in Nigeria, college of education academic staffs union, the directorate of students affairs, among others.
During the build up to the 2023 general election, he convened and coordinated a students’ support group, named Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Students’ Support Group (AASSG) in a bid to support the re-election bid of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. As the coordinator of the progressive movement, he mobilized students and organized series of programs, among which was a-2 day education reform dialogue that centers on interactive session on the revitalization of education in kwara state between 2019 and 2023, palliative distributions to the students in the name of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, campus to campus electoral sensitization, mega solidarity rally, among others.
Also, he was the Director of Student’s’ Engagement, Kwara APC 2023 campaign Council, as the Director of students directorate, he performed wonderfully well as he toured all campuses and off campus students residential areas in a bid mobilize votes for all APC candidates in the students constituency. Also, a mega solidarity rally was also organised in a bid to show to the world that students are fully in support of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq reelection bid.
