The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has expressed gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his positive impact on tertiary education.

Fasina also counselled the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, to employ more constructive engagements with stakeholders in pressing home its demands.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this during the annual leadership retreat held for newly elected leadership of the students union at Western Sun, Ede, Osun State on Monday.

He commended the removal of tertiary institutions from IPPIS and the reversal of the proposed 40% IGR remittance.

Prof. Fasina said the institution under his leadership has recorded significant growth, with the student population rising to a record 55,000, making it the fourth most sought-after university in Nigeria, according to 2023 JAMB statistics.

“The University has made numerous strides in improving both staff and student welfare and infrastructure. Key achievements include the payment of hazard allowances, subsidized transportation, prompt staff promotions, and compassionate admissions for staff’s children. Educational incentives, health benefits, and infrastructural developments like new lecture theatres, staff schools, and a business school have been significant milestones”, he listed.

“Notably, FUOYE has introduced innovative initiatives such as FUOYE MICROFINANCE and FUOYE Business and Transport centers. The University has also celebrated academic successes, with students winning national awards and competitions”, he explained.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of constructive engagement between students and management and the role of students in championing progressive change.
