The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu and an anointed candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki have emerged as the winners of the parallel primaries of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Edo State.

Shaibu won the primaries with over three hundred and one votes.

Ighodalo emerged as the party’s candidate for September 2024 governorship election in the state.

Ighodalo, a lawyer and financial expert, won a total of 577 votes, while all his challengers who did not withdraw from the race scored zero votes.

Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, who boycotted the exercise for a parallel congress which he won, garnered one vote.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, the Chief returning Officer of the primary election observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Ighodalo the winner of the exercise and the party’s candidate for the September ballot.

The 10 aspirants cleared to contest the governorship primary are Hon. Omosede Igbinedion; former chairman Edo State APC, Anselem Ojezua; former chairperson of Esan West Local,

Government Area, Felix Akhabue; Felix Akhabue, former managing director of Sterling Bank, Dr Asue Ighodalo; Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu; Arthur Esene, former House of Representatives member, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama; Amb. Martin Uhumoibi, Osaro Onaiwu and Umoru Hadizat.
