A foremost youth leader in the Niger Delta region, Senior Comrade Alex Alabo Nathan has condemned the killing of over 17 Army personnel in Delta State.
Speaking to newsmen in Port-Harcourt, Alabo nathan said the attack on the soldiers was despicable and unnecessary, he highlighted how the youths responsible for the killing have succeeded in putting their community and the Niger Delta region, in bad light , he said ” I am still in deep shock that in the year 2024, youths will kill military people on peace keeping mission , or region has been safe for years and i wonder why they will want to cause unrest, by killing the men of armed forces who put their life on the line protecting the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large ”
He further stated “Recall that on Thursday 14th March At least 17 military personnel were killed by irate youths during a communal clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities in Delta State on Thursday. The personnel attached to the 181 Amphibious Battalion were responding to a distress call when they were ambushed and killed on Thursday.
We hear many residents of Okuama in the Ughelli South Local Government Area and Okolaba in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, fled the communities on Friday, as soldiers took over the area and reportedly set some houses ablaze in reaction to the killing of 16 soldiers, including senior officers. ”
Comrade Alex further said ” I can imagine how devastated the families of our fallen heroes feel, children who will never see their father’s again, and wives who will never see their husbands, it’s truly tragic and heart breaking, I want to also pleas with the military to carryout proper and human-friendly investigations so as to avoid innocent people been affected with by their operation and culprits be brought to book.
President Tinubu has given orders for rhe culprits to be apprehended and I sure that in no distant time, the youths who carried our this wicked act will be caught and made to face consequence for their actions . Niger Delta region has been very peaceful for several years now and as youths we intend to ensure this contintues, we won’t let some miscreants and blood thirsty youths spoilt our good name , I can assure you that we will always give the government, neccesary support to ensure our region continues and sustains peace at all cost , peace is truly priceless”.
