In the heart of giving back to the Society as a means of Cooperate Social Responsibility, Ifejesu Salam, a daughter of Representative Bamidele Salam on Wednesday donated equipment to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
The items were received by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Babatunde Olaitan and consultant gynecologist, Dr Oluseyi Atanda, among other staff of the Hospital.
Prof Olaitan appreciated the young nurse for her wonderful contribution to the growth and progress of the Hospital, describing her gestures as novel.
He said “I will like to appreciate Ifejesu and her parents for giving her the opportunity to do this wonderful deed. This is a remarkable event in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department in the Hospital.
“And if I may say, no student doctor has ever done this for the hospital since I became CMD, but in just three weeks of her arrival, she was able to sight a problem and profer solutions. We really appreciate it”, he explained.
In addition to his remarks, the Consultant from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Dr Atanda advised students doctors, nurses and interns to learn to give back to the Health Institution they learnt from, adding that it will go beyond learning and improving the lives of the patients whom are in need.
Ifejesu Salam, who is the daughter of the Honourable, representing Ede Federal Constituency, Hon Bamidele Salam came to Nigeria for a three week internship programme at the Hospital.
In an interview with the newsmen, Ifejesu explained the motives of her contribution to the Department and Hospital as a whole.
She said “Pulling from my experience working as a nurse in Canada, I just realized some of the needs of the hospital, the little things, that could actually make a big difference in patient care and patient outcomes. I believe getting things like this is everyone’s business and that’s what encouraged me to contribute my own little quota to this”.
“So I provided the 2D ultrasound machine and also with the pamphlet for the antenatal care department that just contains health information about what to expect during pregnancy and what to expect when you’re coming to the antenatal care clinic”.
She advised other students Doctors to observe the problems in the system, and make contributions towards solving the problems, while adding that “the most little thing can go a very long way. So whatever little thing you can contribute, it doesn’t have to be, like, a major thing. It can actually make a big difference in the lives of the patients “, she concluded.
