The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of fraternizing with EndBadGovernance protesters.
The party said the aim of the Governor is to embarrass the federal government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Chairman of the Osun APC, Tajudeen Lawal in a statement by Kola Olabisi, the Director of Media of the Party, made the accusation on Wednesday.
Lawal said Adeleke’s action is contrary to what his counterparts from other states are doing, alleging that the public holiday declared for schools in support of the protest.
In Lawal’s words: “While other state governors have clearly discouraged protesters from embarking on the planned action because it is capable of leading to breach of security, Governor Adeleke in his fake populist assumption is egging them on in the state, and reportedly providing logistics for them.
“It is on record that Governor Adeleke has even given a public holiday to both state-owned primary and secondary schools in the state to enable them partake fully in the politically-motivated protests in order to get at the Tinubu administration.
“What Governor Adeleke and his cohorts fail to understand is that whatever affects the part will also not spare the whole which is an unwritten law of nature.
“It is strange that Governor Adeleke, for primordial politics, could be so provincial and parochial that he would galvanize agitations designed to topple the central government and instigate anarchy in the country he is a head of a component part
“Let me use this forum to inform all the people of Osun State in general and the members of our party in particular not to key into the nefarious activities of protesting against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his numerous efforts to correct the inherited challenges confronting his government will soon yield good fruit.
“Our people in Osun State should not go in the way of Governor Adeleke with reference to the planned nationwide protest as one needs no soothsayer to understand that Governor Adeleke doesn’t mean well for the Tinubu government despite the support the federal government has extended to Osun State since May 2023 when President Tinubu came on board.
“In 2023 alone, Osun received no less than N21 billion infrastructure grant from the Federal Government as well as N6.3 billion for revitalization of our health centres, enrolment of the vulnerable citizens on health insurance scheme and construction of classrooms in our schools. This is different from the N6bn NG-CARES grant received last year and another N9bn NG-CARES grant received this year from the Federal Government.
“The above gifts from the Federal Government are different from the N2 billion palliative support fund, statutory federal allocation which has doubled since President Tinubu became leader of the country and loads of food supplies to cushion the effect of removal of fuel subsidy.
“As we speak, the Federal Government has approved the construction of the massive Ilesa-Akure-Benin Road, valued at N525 billion as well as Benin-Akure, by Ilesa, valued at N286 billion.
“The Federal Government of Tinubu is equally funding creditably different Zonal Intervention Projects ( also known as Constituency Projects) nominated by the PDP federal legislators across the length and breadth of the state. Just as the government has on-borded no fewer than 15 tertiary and vocational institutions in the state, including our nine technical colleges, into the newly-activated Nigerian Education Loan Fund(NELFUND).
“So is that the kind of President the ungrateful government in Osun State is working surreptitiously for his downfall?
“Let’s say no to protests in Osun State and give President Tinubu’s government more time to concentrate on his Renewed Hope Agenda.
