In a bid to advance quality education at the grassroots and also produce successful scholars, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Aiyedire state Constituency, Hon. Elisha Akinyemi Oderinwale has provided over 500 students with writing materials and scholarships.
The back-to-school empowerment, which was held at the Ileogbo Townhall on Thursday, had in attendance students across Ileogbo, Kuta, Oluponna and Onigangan among others, traditional rulers, political functionalities, teachers, among other attendees.
This highly impactful programme is the second of such to be sponsored by the lawmaker in just 15 months of his stay in the Assembly.
Representing the lawmaker, his wife, Mrs Oyinkansola Oderinwale commended the students and teachers for the successful second edition annual summer coaching while admonishing the students not to procrastinate in their studies and be humble and diligent in their studies.
“You can’t feature in the future, you didn’t picture, I encourage you to take your education very serious, be diligent in your studies, don’t procrastinate, read and be humble in all your endeavour.
“For you to be distinct, you need to be self-determined, be diligence, and be discipline in all you do, do away with peer pressure, social vices and be an ambassador of good character and noble choices”, she concluded.
She also reiterated the lawmaker’s commitment to ensure a successful education system and successful scholars in Aiyedire local government.
In his lecture, the Acting Dean of student Affairs, Federal College of Education, Iwo, Dr Olusegun Lana spoke on the effects of social media on students productivity, imploring the students not to get carried away with social media, while urging them to make education their priorities.
He also added that “social media will take your attention away from your studies, when you give social media too much concentration it takes away your focus, you should know the correct use of social media and make the correct use for your studies.
“You can develop your digital skills, through social media, learn new languages and new knowledge of your courses in social media”, he concluded.
The Chairman planning committee of the summer coaching, Comrade Olaniyi Rasaq commended the students and also appreciated the honorable for fulfilling his promises to the students during the first edition, held September 2023.
Rasaq disclosed that “The free holiday coaching lasted for 4 weeks in Aiyedire local government and over 500 students in total benefited from the lessons with qualitative education”.
The beneficiaries appreciated the lawmaker and his team for prioritising their education and for fulfilling his campaign promises to them.
Insight Media recalls that the Osun Lawmaker held the first edition of the summer coaching in 2023, 30 West African Examination Council forms were given and 8 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms were also given to beneficiaries.
