The Chief Executive Officer of Baobab Plus Nigeria, Mr. Kolawole Osinowo, has called on Nigerian youth to acquire essential skills that would help them develop innovative mindset for growth.
He said this in a keynote at a Seminar to mark the International Youth Day organized by the Institute of Industrial Development, IID, with the theme: “Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Skills: Fostering a Sustainable Future Through Youth Empowerment, Developing Tomorrows Essential Skills”.
He advised the youth to be intentional about their future by creating opportunities from opportunities that do not exist.
He stated: “Despite their potential, Nigerian youth face numerous challenges, including high unemployment rate. The youth unemployment rate in Nigeria remains alarming high, with many young people struggling to find meaningful employment. They should start thinking of innovative business and also set a schedule of their own and be a lifelong learner.”
Earlier in his welcome speecg, Founder, IID and Managing Director of Emobella Nigeria Ltd, Engr. Precious Adeho, said that creating opportunities for youth participation in governance was essential.
While, emphasizing the crucial roles of young people in achieving the Suitable Development Goals, he pointed out that empowering Nigerian youth requires a multifaceted approach that addresses the root causes of the challenges they face in education which according to him is critical.
Adeho said the IID program is aimed at investing in individuals for the future of the community, economy, and nation.
Also speaking, President, Inspire Xtra Empowerment Initiative, i-Xtra, Dr Blessing Ayemhere, said it is imperative for government to create jobs for the youth to stimulate economic growth in the future.
