The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has warned its customers about a surge in fraudulent activities involving meter replacement agents.
In a disclaimer posted on its X platform on Monday, the IBEDC management said the company has received numerous reports of individuals posing as IBEDC staff and attempting to deceive customers into paying for unauthorised meter replacements or sharing sensitive personal information.
IBEDC urges customers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with anyone claiming to be from the company for meter replacement purposes.
The company emphasises that only authorised IBEDC staff, identifiable by their official uniforms and identification cards, are authorised to carry out meter replacement services.
The IBEDC disclaimer read, “The management of IBEDC disclaims any information circulating about replacing PHCN meters with modern smart meters through unofficial channels. Please note that:
“IBEDC has not authorised any third-party agents to collect vending receipts, personal data, or payments for meter replacements.
“Customer should only interact with authorised IBEDC staff and official channels for meter-related services.
“Any claims of mandatory meter replacement within a specific timeframe are false.”
