The Osun State Commissioner of Information, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, has criticized former governorship candidate Goke Omigbodun’s statements on governance priorities and flyover bridges, labeling them as factually incorrect and mirroring opposition rhetoric.
According to Alimi in a statement, Omigbodun’s claims that federal allocation inflows into Osun have increased five-fold since the previous government are false and unsupported by publicly available data.
Alimi emphasized that while allocations have increased, they have not doubled, let alone quintupled, and their value has decreased due to inflation and national rate crises.
Omigbodun’s suggestion that the government should prioritize paying accumulated salary and pension debts was also disputed.
Alimi explained that phased payments, endorsed by labor, are being made to liquidate debts, and shutting down other sectoral demands would be imprudent.
The Commissioner highlighted Omigbodun’s oversight of significant road construction, primary health center rehabilitation, and mining reforms.
He also corrected Omigbodun’s assertion that the state is neglecting energy generation and distribution, citing finalized legal and policy frameworks.
Regarding flyover bridges, Alimi countered Omigbodun’s claim that Olaiya junction needs a flyover more than Oke-fia.
He explained that Olaiya’s traffic jams have been resolved by four adjoining roads, while Oke-fia experiences congestion from five major roads.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming Osun’s economy through targeted spending on education, sports, tourism, science, technology, energy, transportation, commerce, and industry.
In conclusion, Alimi stated that Omigbodun’s criticisms are misinformed and urged him to acknowledge the administration’s accomplishments.
