The socio-political organization Afenifere has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for demonstrating a lack of official empathy toward the “agony and distressing state of the nation” that Nigerians are currently experiencing.
Following a meeting at the residence of its leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, the group expressed concern that the Federal Government appears detached from the “widespread hardship, persistent insecurity, and debilitating hunger” that citizens face.
Afenifere pointed to the recent fuel price increase as the latest example of policies that seem to exacerbate the difficulties of the populace, signaling a troubling lack of empathy from the government.
In a communiqué issued by Afenifere Deputy Leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Deputy Secretary-General Alade Rotimi-John, which was shared with The PUNCH on Thursday, the group remarked on the absence of a coherent plan from the Tinubu administration to address the hardships affecting Nigerians.
“Afenifere reviewed the ongoing distressing social and economic conditions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The meeting highlighted that the nation’s troubling situation is reflected in widespread hardship, persistent insecurity, and crippling hunger.
“The meeting noted the lack of official empathy regarding the people’s agonizing circumstances. Instead, there seems to be a relentless focus on policies that worsen the people’s suffering, such as the continuous fuel price hikes.
“Additionally, the meeting observed a careless approach to governance, exemplified by the absence of any coherent or definitive program from the government or its affiliated party.”
