The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally reacted to the controversial election result released the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, which he claimed to have gotten from the commission’s server.

The commission filed a response to the tribunal on Thursday, April 11 in Abuja, accusing Atiku of manufacturing results of the last presidential election to prove his case at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

According to Premium Times, INEC has distanced itself from an electronic sheet that Atiku claimed contained the genuine results of the presidential election.

Recall that Atiku’s legal team submitted the sheet at the tribunal in March, claiming it was obtained from an internal compilation of results on INEC’s internet server.

Amongst other submissions, the legal team alleged that Atiku won by more than six million votes and accused INEC of manipulating his victory in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

INEC, however, dismissed the claim, saying it “does not share information with such an unclassified entity and any information purportedly derived therefrom which does not accord with the result as declared by INEC is not authentic but rather was invented for the purpose” of the tribunal.

In the 291-page response, INEC said it did not transmit results via electronic channels, but used manual collation as stipulated by law.

“INEC specifically denies the existence of electronic transmission of results and it is unknown to the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended),” it said.
