….Allow Small markets sell food items in the evening

As the lockdown begins today across the state, the residents of Osun state, especially Osogbo city and others, have begged Governor Gboyega Oyetola to review his total ban on markets across the state and encourage the 21-Man Relief committee to act as fast as possible.

The residents, who spoke with InsightMedia correspondents in Osogbo, the state capital, said unless the governor allow the selling of food items in the markets, they would die of ‘hunger virus’ even before the Coronavirus would get to their areas.

While they appreciated the efforts of the governor to protect citizens from the virus, the residents urged Governor Oyetola to either roll out relief materials or allow the selling of only food items in the markets every evening.

Mrs. Ojo, a seller at Igbona market Osogbo, Who spoke with Insight Media on Tuesday said markets would be shut down to obey the lockdown order in the state as part of measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

She said: “It is a terrible situation. The Coronavirus is dangerous but hunger will kill us.

Another resident, Mr Rauf Lekan, said, there is no way we can buy even foodstuffs and the government has not provided any relief materials. There is nothing in place to assist us.

According to reports gathered by Voiceairmedia, “The people are crying that hunger-virus will kill faster than COVID-19.

In his contribution, Mr Babawale Popoola, said, “How are we going to survive? The market is closed, the state is lockdown, no relief materials to the residents of the state.

“Majority of the Osun citizens solemnly depend on daily income to feed their themselves and family. The suffering would be too much,” he said.

Though Oyetola earlier set up 21-Man committee to look into relief materials but we charged them to make hay while the sun shines.

A public affairs commentator, Comrade Olorungbotemi Bright said since the restriction orders would not affect medical and pharmaceutical personnel, petroleum products, media workers and newspaper distributors, etc, it’s a good idea for people to stay at home but when people are indoor, who will buy drugs and others? He queried.
