Widows and aged in Ife on Wednesday received COVID-19 relief package distributed by one of illustrious sons of the town, Prince Nureni Adekanmi Hammed Foundation.

The distribution, which cut across two local government area local government, was done to cushion the effect of lockdown in the state. About hundred people benefitted from the gesture.

It would recalled that that the state government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola has declared that the second phase of the lockdown will commence on Friday across the state.

Speaking with InsightMedia, founder of the foundation, Prince Nureni Adekanmi Hammed stated that the motive was to ensure that vulnerable people, most especially, the aged and widows have foodstuffs to sustain them during the lockdown.

He expressed that government alone cannot cater for the needs of everyone and thus, his intervention.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with our correspondent expressed their happiness over the gesture.

“We’re happy over what he brought to us and we prayed to God to continue to bless him,” they said.

Items distributed include rice, beans, semovita, garri and vegetable oil.
