The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos Zone, he said bad politics between governments of the owner states of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, is responsible for the problems faced by the ivory tower.

The Coordinator of Lagos zone of the union spoke Coordinator, Prof. Olusiji Sowande, spoke on Friday at a briefing with journalists at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Sowande, who said the union got directive from its National Executive Council to intimate the public on the crisis rocking LAUTECH, noted that both states must change their current positions for things to change.

He said the legislative arm of government in both states had stiffled LAUTECH of funds by not approving adequate budgetary allocations to the institution.

Sowande argued that the paucity of funds in the institution led to irregular payment of salaries and other emoluments of workers, which resulted in the current warning strike.

He said, “There has been this bad politics between the owners of the institution, Oyo and Osun states, and this has affected the institution. There is paucity of funds.

“Despite the Memorandum of Action the ASUU signed with governing council of LAUTECH, the situation persists.”

Sowande, who supported the idea of one of the states ceding the institution to the other, called on them to adequately finance it as the institution faces infrastructural decay.
