The national appeal committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has upheld the candidature of Senator Shehu Sani as its party’s candidate for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

The committee’s decision was contained in the recommendation of a five-man panel members headed by Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

Other members of the committee include; Mike Ugwa (secretary), Musa Gwadabe, Reuben Famuyibo and Abdulrahman Adamu.

The panel in its report insisted that Sani remains the only aspirant cleared by the party from the zone.

The special adviser to the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had challenged the decision of the national leaders of the party for giving automatic ticket to the senator.

Uba Sani who is also interested in the Kaduna central senatorial district ticket said it was not proper for the party to give an automatic ticket to Senator Sani.

Also, the state chapter of the party had conducted the primary elections where Shehu Sani was said to have lost to Uba but the senator quickly distanced himself from the election saying that he would not be part of such illegality.

Following various petitions received by the party, the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, inaugurated an appeal committee to investigate all cases on their merits and make recommendations where necessary.

Scores of protesters from different states had also besieged the national secretariat of the party to protest the conduct of the presidential, governorship and legislative primary elections .

The aggrieved aspirants had accused Oshiomhole of fostering a candidate against the will of the people and therefore called for his resignation.

Sani’s media aide, Abdulsamad Amadi, in a statement said the Senator wished to inform the general public that he was not part of the “purported” APC senatorial primaries in Kaduna state.

Amadi also said that the Senator will not send anybody as its representative or agent to that illegality that some desperate people are organising because the national leadership of the APC had not scheduled any senatorial primaries in the state.
