The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo Adedotun stated on Tuesday that Chief Ernest Shonekan, former Head of Interim National Government, is alive.

The Ogun state Government has also debunked the rumours making rounds that the former Head of State had crossed the great divide.

The rumours had gone viral on social media that the British-trained Nigerian lawyer, industrialist and technocrat had given up the ghost.

Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa however, described the rumours as ‘a lie from the pit of hell’.

In a statement by the media aide of the monarch, Layi Labode, the palace said both the Personal Assistant (PA) and Shonekan’s Media Aide have denied the rumoured death.

‘However, I have just spoken with Chief Ernest Shonekan’s Personal Assistant, Mr. Dickson who refuted the story. Mr. Dickson also disclosed that the Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, had phoned him and that he (Dickson) confirmed to Governor Amosun that Chief Shonekan is alive’ he said.

Also, a media aide to the Babasale of Egbaland, Mr. Gbenga Fasina, said Chief Shonekan is alive.

‘We shall keep you informed if there is any development’ he stated.
