Dismissed lecturer at the Department of Accounting, Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Richard Akindele, was yesterday remanded in prison for allegedly demanding sex from his student, Miss Monica Osagie.
Akindele was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
ICPC Prosecutor Mr Kehinde Adedoyo said the lecturer committed the offence on September 16, 2017 in contravention of Sections 8(1)(A) (2) and 18(d) of the corrupt practices and other related offenses Act 2000.
He told the court that Akindele’s offence was punishable under the law to serve as deterrent to other people.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation and his lawyer, Fola Omotoso, urged the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.
The ICPC lawyer opposed the bail application by Akindele’s lawyer on the premise that the accused person refused to show up at the office of the commission since he was granted administrative bail.
In her ruling, Justice Maurine Onyetenu remanded Akindele in prison and adjourned the case to November 27.
