A Higher National Diploma 2 student of Osun State Polytechnics Iree, Miss Fathia Opeyemi Abdulsalam has emerged as the national president of Iragbiji National Students Union.

Fondly called called Omo Salami by his admirers and supporters, Miss Fathiat polled 70 votes to defeat her rival, Moshood Akinpelu Kolawole who had 12 votes and set a record of the longest margin in the history of the students Union election in the ancient town.

Her declaration as the president-elect by the by the electoral committee of the union sparked a wild jubilation in the community on Saturday as hundreds of students who are her as the most competent candidate thronged to the street to celebrate her victory.

In her acceptance speech, Miss Fathiat appreciated all the students of Iragbiji for the confidence reposed in her and promised to deliver a continuity of the good works that the outgoing administration where she served as Vice President started.

She said, “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the voters and supporters. The support I felt throughout the electioneering process was incredible and I owe it to you all.

“Not only am I thankful for your support, but also for all the candidates who offer to serve the students and seek solutions for union problems.

“Also, unreserved appreciation to all organisations , associations, Cadres for the believe, support and mandate given to me to paddle the affairs of the Union for a administrative tenure ( 2018/2019).

“A long campaign is over now, you voted for action, Continuity of credible works. You elected us to focus on the Union jobs, and in coming weeks and months, I am looking forward to reaching out and working with my co – executives to meet the challenges we can only solve together.”

The President-elect also extend a hand of comradeship to her contender as she implored him to be part of the administration.

“Two sets of people have evolved: the Vanquished and the Vanquishers. To the Vanquished, though you lost the election, you’re not losers. Losing the election does not mean you are not qualified for that post, you might even be the round peg which fits for the hole. Believe you me, a great courage you have surmounted for even stepping and standing out when a lot of people who could also make changes sat back blended in. I salute you for your conviction and I look forward to working with you when the administration officially begins”.

She also appreciated the community leaders who have contributed immensely to the development of the union and the community and promised to always be good ambassadors of the ancient town.
