The President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero has been referred for ophthalmic investigation, a brain scan, a full body scan, and cervical spine therapy among other investigations following brutalization by officers of the Nigeria police on Wednesday.

This is contained in a message sent by the Head of Information of NLC, Comrade Benson Upah to newsmen in Owerri.

Comrade Upah said the NLC President, Joe Ajaero was presently on a neck collar with weal all over his skin.

He stated that the Labour leader was taken to the Police Hospital in Owerri and later referred to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he is receiving medical attention.

The NLC alleged that Ajaero was thoroughly brutalized, with his right eye shut at the time of contact, with his phones, money and other personal effects taken off him.

NLC threatens nationwide strike

The Organised Labour had earlier issued a warning to workers, indicating a potential nationwide action if the detained President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is not released by the close of business on Wednesday.

Earlier, Comrade Ajaero was apprehended in Owerri, Imo State, amidst a worker-led protest against the alleged persistent infringement of their rights by the state government.

NLC Threatened Nationwide Strike
The Organised Labour had earlier urged workers to be prepared for immediate measures, asserting that productivity cannot resume while the NLC President remains detained.

The Organised Labour also insisted that President Bola Tinubu must intervene to restrain Uzodimma and prevent the state from devolving into what they describe as “a den of thugs and bloodsuckers.”
