Building on the success of the hit Netflix original epic, Jagun Jagun, acclaimed Nollywood actor and producer Femi Adebayo has announced an exciting new project, Seven Doors, slated for release in 2024. The announcement has generated considerable buzz among movie enthusiasts, following Jagun Jagun’s tremendous popularity and rave reviews in 2023.
During a recent appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on New Year’s Day, Adebayo shared that Seven Doors is among the major projects Nollywood fans should anticipate in the coming year. He revealed that the movie has already completed filming and is currently in the post-production phase.
Offering a glimpse into the storyline, Adebayo explained, “In my upcoming movie, a Yoruba man marries an Igbo woman, and her tribe supports her husband, who is a traditional Yoruba king, while fully respecting their customs and traditions. That’s one of the key elements viewers can look forward to this year.
The film is titled Seven Doors, and it’s going to be a major release. We’ve wrapped up filming and are now focused on post-production.”
In addition to Seven Doors, Adebayo disclosed plans to begin filming the second season of Jagun Jagun, emphasizing his commitment to providing opportunities for emerging talent in the industry.
He also highlighted the growing trend of integrating indigenous language actors with English-speaking counterparts in Nollywood, describing it as a significant and deliberate shift that excites him. “This has truly strengthened the industry. I’m overjoyed by the unity and collaboration we’re seeing now. Producers are even co-producing across tribal lines to engage not just the Yorubas but also the Hausas and other ethnic groups. When we create scripts today, it’s almost a given that we incorporate different cultures,” he remarked.
However, Adebayo also called for a more conducive environment for filmmakers, expressing concerns about security challenges at movie locations and other obstacles that hinder the industry’s growth.
