Former Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secundus has emerged as the substantial chairman of the party.
Prince Secundus defeated other aspirants that contested with him for the topmost office kg the party in the election held at Eagles Square Abuja.
Leading contender from the South West, Prof Tunde Adeniran staged a walkout shortly before the counting of the election while his campaign spokesman, Taiwo Akeju, rejected the outcome of the election even before it was announced.
He urged the Caretaker Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi to hand over the affairs of the party to the Board of Trustees for a ‘credible election.’
Akeju said “We reject the entirety of the electoral process of December 9th, 2017. The election was grossly compromised to achieve a predetermined end in line with the illegal ‘Unity List’ prepared by Governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose and foisted on the entire delegates.
Consequently, we submit that this election is a sham and its result is unacceptable. We reject it in its entirety.
Prince Secundus enjoyed the support of all the eleven Governors of the party as Governors of Rivers and Ekiti states, Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose were seen openly canvassing for him during the election.
Secundus in an exclusive interview with The Punch said “It’s the party first. We have no other reason to remain contestants without the PDP. Our interest is in the party and the desire to wrest the power from the ruling All Progressives Congress. That should be the goal.
“None of us can do it alone. It is in our interest to come together and fight for Nigerians. All contestants are capable of leading the party. I want to appeal to every member of the party to come together and be united. I’m appealing to all and sundry, we should remain united and be committed.
