The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has ruled out suicide in the death of a corps member, Nneka Odili, who was killed in a train accident in Lagos on Thursday, March 8.

The Lagos state coordinator, Mr. Mohammed Momoh, told the newsmen in Lagos, on Monday,12, that there was no trace of suicide in the tragic incident.

According to Momoh, the late corps member did not exhibit any sign of depression or anxiety that could lead to suicide. He expressed shock and dismay at the mysterious circumstances leading to her death on that fateful day, after receiving her acceptance letter at her place of primary assignment.

He said, “she was posted to the 9th brigade, Ikeja cantonment, Maryland, in Lagos.

Based on information released by Momoh, late Odili was born on July 11,1988, in Rivers State. She was a graduate of Health Education from University of Port Harcourt.

She was said to be on her way to complete her documentation at Onigbongbo Local Government, when she was hit by a train, at the Ikeja train station.

“There is no way she could have committed suicide, considering what transpired less than 24hours to her death,” Momoh added.

A search on her facebook page, in the early hours of March 8 when she died, revealed that she uploaded 39 pictures, entitled Happy mood.
The state coordinator also said the insinuations by some people that the late corps member was wearing an earphone when the incident happened are not true.

“She have only small phone and nothing like headphone or earpiece at the scene of the accident, ” Momoh explained further.

The remains of the late corps member has been buried on March 11 at Ndoni, Onelga Local Government, Rivers State.
