Former Ekiti state governor and incumbent minister of solid minerals, Dr John Kayode Fayemi has emerged the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the July 14th governorship election in the state.
In the rescheduled primary election that was held in the state, the immediate past governor defeated other aspirants to clinch the ticket of the party with his closest rival being another former governor and current deputy national chairman (South) of the party, Chief Segun Oni.
Fayemi will now face the incumbent deputy governor of the state, Professor Olusola Kolapo who on last Tuesday emerged the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
In his reaction shortly before the official announcement, Fayemi said “”Civil Servants, teachers and LG workers will smile in my NEW Government. We are not coming to sack anybody, rather we are coming to make workers’ welfare a top priority.”
It would be recalled that last week’s primary of the party was engulfed by crisis that led to cancellation of the process.
