The Ekiti State chapter of All Progressives Congress has inaugurated campaign committees for the July 14 governorship election.

The council is distinct from the one inaugurated by the National Secretariat of APC and led by Kebbi State Governor, Alh. Atiku Bagudu.

The ailing former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, was announced as the campaign Director-General.

Bamidele and five others were shot by a riot-policeman on July 1 at the APC secretariat in Ado Ekiti during a reception rally organised for the governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

Fayemi said Bamidele was retained as the DG having accepted to serve before the unfortunate shooting incident.

Speaking at the inauguration of the campaign council, the State Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, said the campaign was decentralised for easy access to those at the grassroots.

The Chairmen of the campaign committees are Otunba Niyi Adebayo (Finance), Femi Bamisile (Mobilisation), Mrs Bisi Fayemi (Women), Mrs. Wunmi Ogunlola (Welfare and Protocol), Biodun Fasakin (Legal), Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun (media), Mr Alaba Abejide (Contact), Dr Bayo Orire (Health), Femi Ogundare (Youth), Group Capt. Ropo Ayegbusi (Security) and Chief Awe (Special Purpose).

Fayemi said, “But let me state here that we are still retaining his position as the Director General of the council, because he had already accepted to be DG before that incident.”

Fayemi said the APC remained committed to a peaceful election urging security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities.

“The intelligence report we got that the PDP was plotting to cause violence of various forms in every part of the state has been shared with security agencies and they are working on it,” he said.

The immediate past Minister of Mines and Steel Development said the National body of the party would flag off the campaign in Ekiti on June 19 while the grand finale would be led by President Muhammadu Buhari on July 10.
