The University of Lagos has been embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal just barely a month after a Professor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife enmeshed in the scandal.
A yet-to-be identified lady made the claim that Professor Olusegun Awonusi of department of English Studies has sexually harassed her several times.
Awonusi was a former Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State.
The lady narrated her ordeal in the hands of the professor who according to her “always molest ladies female students that enter his office” and has also failed her severally in tests.
In the meantime, the management of the institution has said it will investigate thoroughly the alleged sexual harassment involving an alleged lecturer in the school.
The institution made this known in a statement signed by the Communication Unit, Corporate Affairs Directorate, UNILAG, and it reads in part; “Management will tackle the allegation with every sense of responsibility and seriousness that the matter deserves. The issue will be thoroughly investigated with transparency.”
Stating that the management had zero tolerance for allegations pertaining to sexual impropriety, the statement continued, “We wish to reassure all our stakeholders, students, parents, members of staff and the general public that management will not treat this matter with levity. Management will tackle the allegation with every sense of responsibility and seriousness that the matter deserves.
