Angry mob in Ede, Osun State have lynched to death a ‘Yahoo Yahoo boy’ simply identified as Fish for allegedly crushing five admission seekers into the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, on Monday.
Fish who is a final year student of the institution was said to have been drunk while driving on Monday evening.
According to eyewitness account, the Yahoo Yahoo boy had attended a party before driving alongside some of his friends.
The victims were said to be admission seekers to the institution who were in the school on Monday to write their Post UTME.
It was gathered that the candidates had finished writing their exams at the Polytechnic’s South Campus and where heading home before the driver crushed five of them to death.
Consequently, some other residents of the area, most of whom are youths, descended on the student driver and lynched him to death.
The friends of the student driver were said to have escaped lynching.
A Higher National Diploma II student of the Department of Hospitality Management of the institution, Julianna, confirmed that students of the polytechnic who live off campus are in panic for fear of being attacked by the mob.
She said, “this evening, the yahoo boy (student driver) was driving in the company of his friends. From all indication, he was drunk because his body was smelling alcohol. These JAMB candidates just finished writing their post UTME at the South Campus ofnout school and they were running to their destinations before the yahoo boy hit them and killed them.
“Some of the people who saw it started beating him until he was no longer breathing. He killed five of these candidates. In fact, they have been searching for other students of Ede Poly who were with him in the car and we are afraid now. We can’t even put on our identity cards again. ”
This development has wrecked havoc in the community as the mob had launched a search for the fleeing friends of the student driver.
